Glass-ionomer is first choice widely used biomaterial in caries disease. The evolution of dental material science includes insertion new components into conventional material. A literature-based review outline biomaterials for restorations development was presented nature-inspired context. This article a tribute to the entire research community, all listed and unlisted, involved throughout ages materials with key inventions milestones humanity well-being on Earth. Results. Since Neolithic, human mind has been seeking matter replace missing tooth tissue imitating/mimicking natural organ appearance function, what we call biomimetic/biomimicry approach. However, this restoring philosophy does not refer composition hard tissues. Possibly, there another one concept drawing inspiration from nature design future materials. Nature-inspired synthesis goes beyond aesthetic/and anatomical similarities, delves mechanistic, physico-chemical features or structure-phase systems. In context, pure glass-ionomer might be taken consideration as starting search synthetic mesomaterial structural-phase analogous enamel/dentine/cementum, transforming original host tissues, should focus elongated hydroxyapatite dipole control creating organizing enamel prisms, interwoven alignment perpendicular clusters/bunches picket-fence resembling three-dimensional order. results previous studies confirming possibility formation apatite-enamel-like are promising. inclusion calcium phosphate nanocrystals/substitution glass filler seems forward-looking. role polyelectrolyte organic matrix based polypeptides crosslinked modified analogues adhesives still undiscovered.
